In the world of poker, there are some major events that all poker lovers look forward to. This is mainly because, there are many opportunities to make a lot of money in that there are new players that are seeking the thrill of the game and here comes the opportunity of the experienced players to make a lot of money. There are many poker tournaments for example the World Poker Tour. This is a unique tour that was started back in the year 2000. The tournament consists of a series of poker games, but mainly Texas Holdem is the game of choice. This is a poker game where the players are served with a number of cards and five cards placed face down on the table by the dealer. The players are supposed to place their bets before the fold. The fold is where the players reveal their cards and another round of voting starts. The winner takes the accumulative amount of all bets, called the pot. World Series of Poker (WSOP)
Another very popular tournament is the World Series Poker that is held in Las Vegas on an annual basis. At first it was just a game for few friends at the Horse shoe casino back in 1970. Today, the tournament has grown into one of the largest tournament in the world with the main attraction being the Texas holdem no limit event.
This year’s annual World Series of Poker will be held on the 27th of May to the 17th of June at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino that is in Las Vegas. There will however be a later tournament that will be a three day tournament held on the 6th to the 9th of November. This will be the final of the tournament sponsored by Harrah’s Entertainment. The winners of these tournaments not only get the cash price but also get a gold bracelet and get the honour of having their pictures displayed on the Gallery of Champions at Bunion’s.
The popularity of the game of Texas holdem has grown largely because of such lucrative tournaments and also featuring of the game in movies and novels. One of the largest and most well known tournaments in the history of the poker tournaments was the 37th Annual World Poker Series that was held back in the year 2006 in Las Vegas. This tournament took place from the 25th of November to the 10th of August, at hotel called the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. In the poker tournaments that are to come, a lot is going to change in that, the security in these tournaments has been greatly improved and so the cases of cheating are going to be greatly reduced.
